The Queen Studios 1/4 artist edition Joker is a great piece. 5 stars for me. Excellent likeness and paint applications and the tailoring on the costume is also well done. One of my favorite statues I own.
"Oh and by the way, the suit? It wasn't cheap. You oughta know, you bought it." The tailoring has been done superbly and as far as I could tell quite accurate to the movie. The clothing has received some weathering mainly on the coat to give it a grungy feel. I'm a big fan of mixed media clothing and all the individual pieces of clothing on this statue is simply amazing. Layering down from the coat, blazer, vest, shirt, the pants with the gold chain on his right side and even socks on his feet going into sculpted shoes.
Now onto the pose that captures the famous scene of the joker putting tension on a bit of string tied to several grenades in his coat lining trying to not "blow things out of proportion" after attempting to strike a deal with the mob. I loved the choice of this pose as it hasn't been done yet by other statues and is a very iconic scene of the movie. Once on the base (Which I had a problem with that I'll explain later) you will have to move the lapel of his coat into the grip of his left hand and once you get it properly in the clasp of his hand the lapel should stay fairly snugly. You then need to attach all of his grenades to the hoops on the lining of his coat in a certain order to get correct tension on the string (I'd recommend watching a video as instructions aren't helpful) as well as attach his right hand (which can be switched out for the card holding hand) that you will then put the ring around his thumb on said hand completing the pose.
Gripes and issues that I had with this piece
- As hinted before I had a problem getting the figure to peg into the base. Whether this is intended or not, this is due to the foot pegs not exactly lining up to the base insert points which lead me to quite some confusion making me think I had a defect, but in fact the legs are made of PVC allowing some flexibility so that you can pull the legs slightly apart to get them in the base. This I wish I had known about prior to me struggling to get the figure into the base resulting in scuffing up the foot pegs and the inserts on the base.
- The instructions are no help in getting the grenades in the correct order on the jacket as you would want the string to be taut. As stated above I'd recommend watching a review or the unboxing video on Queen Studios YouTube channel.
- Miscommunication about who the head sculpt was being done by. The images saying "Paint artist: Viper" when it really was Viper and a team of his and not exactly being done by him personally.
- Lack of edition size. In the image it says that the Artist Edition was limited by 300 but no edition number or size can be found on the statue.
